About the Board

The Planning Commission's powers and duties shall be to plan the overall growth, development, redevelopment, rehabilitation and renewal of the Village.

There is hereby established a Planning Commission for the Village which shall possess all of the powers and be subject to all of the responsibilities imposed upon it by law, the ordinances of the Village and the directions of the Village Council. Among its specific powers and duties shall be the authority to make plans and maps of the whole or any portion of the Village and of the land outside thereof, which, in the opinion of the Commission, is related to the planning of the Village and to make changes in such plans or maps when it deems it advisable. Such maps or plans shall show the Commission's recommendations for the general location, character, and extent of streets, alleys, ways, viaducts, bridges, waterways, waterfronts, subways, boulevards, parkways, parks, playgrounds, aviation fields and other public grounds, ways and open spaces; the general location of public buildings and other public property; the general location and extent of public utilities and terminals, whether publicly or privately owned or operated, for water, light, sanitation, transportation, communication, power and other purposes; and the removal, relocation, widening, narrowing, vacating, abandonment, change of use of or extension of such public ways, grounds, open spaces, buildings, property, utilities or terminals.

143.02 COMPOSITION. 
The Planning Commission shall consist of five members, consisting of the Mayor, one member of Council to be elected thereby for the remainder of his term as such member of Council and three citizens of the Village to be selected by the Mayor for terms of six years each, except that the term of one of the members of the first Commission shall be for four years and one for two years. All such members shall serve without compensation.

143.03 OFFICERS. 
The members of the Planning Commission shall elect their own chairman and secretary and select all other necessary officers to serve annually and may employ such persons as may be needed for the proper conduct of their affairs.
